Guide: How to Retrieve Saved Passwords from Popular Web Browsers

If your web browser has saved the password for a website, you can retrieve it by following the steps outlined below for various browsers. Retrieving a Password in Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome Settings: Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of Chrome and select Settings.
  2. Go to Passwords: Scroll down and click on Autofill, then choose Passwords.
  3. Find the Saved Password: Under "Saved Passwords," locate the website you want the password for.
  4. Show the Password: Click on the eye icon next to the password. You may need to enter your computer password to view it.

Retrieving a Password in Safari on Mac

  1. Open Safari Preferences: In the top menu, click Safari and then Preferences.
  2. Go to Passwords: Click on the Passwords tab. You'll be asked to enter your Mac’s password or use Touch ID.
  3. Find the Website: In the search bar, type the website’s name, then select it from the list.
  4. Show the Password: Click on the website, and Safari will display the saved password.

Retrieving a Password in Opera GX

  1. Open Opera Settings: Click the Opera logo in the top-left corner and choose Settings.
  2. Navigate to Passwords: Scroll down to the Privacy & Security section, and click on Passwords under Autofill.
  3. View Saved Passwords: You will see a list of saved passwords. Click the eye icon next to the website to reveal the password, which may require you to enter your system password.

Retrieving a Password in Firefox

  1. Open Firefox Menu: Click on the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security: Scroll down to the Privacy & Security section, then look for the Logins and Passwords heading.
  3. Manage Saved Logins: Click Saved Logins. You can search for the website, then click the eye icon next to the password to view it. You may need to provide your computer password.

Retrieving a Password in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge Settings: Click on the three dots in the upper-right corner and select Settings.
  2. Go to Passwords: Under Profiles, click on Passwords.
  3. Find the Website: Scroll through the list of saved passwords or use the search bar to find the specific site.
  4. Reveal the Password: Click the eye icon next to the saved password and provide your computer password if prompted.

Retrieving a Password in Microsoft Internet Explorer

  1. Open Control Panel: Press Windows + S and search for Control Panel, then open it.
  2. Go to Credential Manager: In the Control Panel, click on User Accounts and then Credential Manager.
  3. Manage Web Credentials: Under Web Credentials, you’ll see a list of websites with saved login information.
  4. View the Password: Click on the website entry, then click Show next to the password. You will need to enter your Windows password to view it.
